This brooch is made of 14 karat yellow gold, embellished with small cabochon turquoises and a ruby eye. The brooch depicts a small bird, holding the beak slightly open; it can possibly be a hoopoe, standing on its branch, decorated with a ruby and cabochon turquoises on its feathers. It is possible that it is a hoopoe precisely because of the upward tuft that characterizes these animals.

In ancient Greece and Roman times, the hoopoe, because of its elegant profile and crest, is always associated with royalty.
